Eri Kamei’s Early Career 2002-2004
Eri Kamei was chosen as part of the 2002 Morning Musume Love Audition to join the group. The other two members that joined Kamei at the time were Sayumi Michishige and Reina Tanaka.
Like many of the Morning Musume members, Kamei released photo books during her career, my favorites being 17sai, Maple, and THANKS.
Kamei’s debut with Morning Musume was in the song called Shabondama. Her album debut was in the album called Ai No Dai 6Kan. In June 2003, Kamei was placed in the group called Morning Musume Sakura Gumi. The goal of this group was to hold concerts in small towns that could not hold concerts for the larger groups. She began to work with Yuko Nakazawa who was a co-host on the variety show called Hello! Morning. Kamei got a chance to have her own segment on show by late 2004. It was also at this time that she made an appearance in the group H.P. All Stars. This is a shuffle unit of Hello! Project, the sort of “umbrella name” in which many Japanese musical artists are a part of.
Eri Kamei: Later Career & Retirement
During the winter of 2005, Kamei’s segment on the Hello! Morning show ended but she still stayed on the show as a regular member. Kamei really struggled to create a sort of presence for herself. But her first big break came when she played the role of Elizabeth Kyamei, a field reporter on the Hello! Pro News Segment of the Hello! Morning show. Kamei then tried to take on comedy roles. One of her most notable roles was a parody of Yon-sama (a Korean actor).
However, Eri Kamei’s career with Morning Musume would come to an end due to health problems. It was announced on August 8, 2010 that she would be graduating from Morning Musume along with LinLin and JunJun. LinLin and JunJun are the only Chinese singers in the history of Morning Musume. They are also the only non-Japanese members of the group. Morning Musume producer TSUNKU later wrote on his blog that the reason that Kamei left the group is due to a serious skin condition that required treatment. Kamei has atopic dermatitis. Kamei would officially graduate on December 15, 2010.
Life After Morning Musume for Eri Kamei
In August 2021, there was a report that surfaced in which she (Kamei) was named as the woman who married Bump of Chicken front man Motoo Fujiwara in August 2020. This story was eventually confirmed by Kamei’s younger sister who also thanked fans for issuing so many congratulations. The management for the group Bump of Chicken confirmed the reports but they also reminded fans and the paparazzi that Fujiwara and Kamei are non-celebrities and as such, they deserve privacy.
